First Polish Abortion Clinic AboTak

by Aborcyjny Dream Team

A Clinic,

Help us open poland's first ever abortion clinic!

We were promised legal abortion, but there's still no sign of changes. Politicians cannot keep their word - so we will do it instead.

We refuse to wait passively - we want phenomenal abortion access in Poland right now.

For this reason, we are opening a place where that will be possible - Poland's first on-site abortion clinic. Our aim is to put pressure on politicians and health care providers to finally deliver the promised changes. Our clinic is yet another step towards the legalisation of abortion in Poland, and proof that the era of abortion shaming is irrevocably over. The Abotak Abortion Clinic is more than just a place of support - it is a place where we not only demand access to abortion, but actually provide it.

Your questions

You ask, we answer. Below you'll find answers to some of the most frequently asked questions that have been raised following the announcement of our new project, the AboTak Abortion Clinic.

PS. You can learn more about our mission in our Abortion Manifesto (which you yourself can sign).

AboTak is a place created for those, who need an abortion. Alongside professional abortion services, we want it to be a space for conversations, meetings and education around abortion. AboTak is the first on-site place in Poland where it will be possible to access support in having abortion with pills and, in the future, also a surgical abortion if we find the right specialists. We are creating this place so that each person can leave empowered with sisterly support - without trauma, shame or humiliation.
Yes, there will be access to abortion with pills at the AboTak Clinic, through the use of pills from trustworthy and safe sources such as Women Help Women. Surgical abortions will be arranged abroad for the time being, and we will assist in finding a suitable clinic and arranging transport and financial support if needed.
Yes, abortion with pills is safe and fully in accordance with World Health Organisation (WHO) guidelines. The WHO advises that the procedure can be performed independently at home, without the involvement of any medical professionals. The Abortion Dream Team has been supporting women in Poland in having safe abortions for many years.
Yes, AboTak's functioning will be fully compliant with current legislation. Neither we nor those who seek our services will face any legal consequences. As a reminder: terminating one's own pregnancy is not punishable and abortion with pills, in which we will assist, is absolutely legal. This is the way in which we support tens of thousands of women every year.
The AboTak Clinic will be located in the centre of Warsaw. We are doing our best to make it operational later this year (2024).
The Abotak clinic is open to anyone who needs help in terminating their pregnancy, regardless of their reason, age, financial status, background or health status. We have never asked for reasons and have no intention of ever changing that.
Although our current focus is on abortion with pills, we also plan to introduce surgical abortions at some point. If we can find medical staff, who are able and willing to perform vacuum aspiration abortions, we will provide them with the appropriate equipment and support. If you need a surgical abortion, we will help you find a suitable facility abroad, along with arranging transport and even financial support, if needed.
The AboTak Clinic is being established because it is urgently needed. Abortion has been, is and will continue to be a part of our lives, regardless of what politicians may say. AboTak aims to provide safe and easy access to abortion and support, in spite of all the political manoeuvres which try to limit our rights. Given the lack of adequate action from the government, we decided to take the first step and open the first on-site abortion clinic in Poland.
The Abotak clinic will primarily offer support with abortion with pills. Beyond this, we want the clinic to be a place for education, meetings and a space to talk about abortion. AboTak will also be offering a variety of gadgets, works by feminist artists, information brochures and abortion-starter-packs.
The Abotak clinic needs financial support to renovate, equip and maintain the new venue. You can do this by donating via our fundraising page, whose link we're sharing. If you cannot donate, you can also help in other meaningful ways - for example by distributing posters and stickers, organising benefit events or simply by letting others know about our initiative.
At the moment we are focusing on launching the first clinic in Warsaw, but looking forward, we hope that similar new venues like this one will be created in other polish cities.
